What is the Universal Truth?

What is the universal truth
To which everyone can relate
This is the question I pondered

Of late
I could speak of my
Love for my children
But not everyone has them
Or
Even likes them
I could speak of my love for my husband
But what if you are that solitary figure
Who has yet to find
Your one love
Or you have
But don’t like them anymore
Or they have left you
Or you them
Or
Or
Speaking of loss
What if I was to speak of my grief
Being split
Asunder by fates gallloping breathtaking thunder
Or stress
Or

Mess

Or

Yessssss
Just
A
Nice
Easy
Complaint
Oh God no
I’ve only got three minutes
And we in the first world
Have so many whinges
That are contingent
On

Our
Very
Important
Emotional
Wellbeing

Third world people are lucky
They only have to care about

Important things
Food
Shelter
Clean water
Survival

Over here in first world

That’s all taken care of
We
First world survivors have got it tough

We have more than enough

Of all these things

So with that burden relieved

Instead
We have to ponder all manner of mindful torture
We never have enough

Stuff

Instead
And we keep adding to it
With
Every
Purchase
We
Make
So no way
Am I going to begin to find a poem that covers all our complaints
There are just too many
So
So
So
So
No
I will not find a poem which relates
To everyone
I cannot
It’s impossible

Then yesterday, I’m standing in line

Still pondering my universal rhyme

When an old lady behind me

Catches my eye

We smile

And I offer her my place in the queue

Internally I’m thinking

How long have I got

Till I look like you?

Till my hips hurt

As I shift foot to foot

To relieve an ache

And it seems

Quite suddenly

every breath I take

Is precious

Because here’s the thing

The table to which

We all bring

Ourselves

One by one

To eat

While we are here

We may be alive

But inside

We

Are

All

Dying

Slam poetry was something I did for awhile and at one stage I was always trying to find the perfect universal theme to talk about – something someone in India or Africa or China or America – anyone regardless of race religion gender could see and think – yes I agree – yesterday I found it – I think – in this.

Peace to you today 💕

    • I wanted love to be the universal truth but sadly so many people live such fraught lives they never find much of any love. I agree with you though- love is the universal blessing and when we are able to give and receive love – life is wonderful. Have a great day Rosaliene 🌍💕

    So poignant.

Are you from Australia? I saw the photo and straight away knew which part of the world it was from.

    • Yeah I’m not lecturing here – I’m as intensely woven into the human experience as flawed as the next person. If I have some insight it comes from having made mistakes – I don’t think it is a problem to make mistakes – it is how we learn – I think it is a problem when we don’t learn from the mistakes. Then it is wasted opportunity for growth.
