You can’t take it with you
They say
When you go
I want to take it with me
This beach
My second home
And now it’s time to return to
My first one
I try
In photos that I took
Long breaths full of sea air
Grains of sand
That tangle in my hair
The pages of a book
A towel
Things that I will shake out later
And feel icing sugar soft powder
Drift
Sift
Through the air
One day I’ll live here
I say to myself
To comfort the longing
To take it with me
It reminds me of lesser things
We spend much of our lives
Gathering
Collecting
Hoarding
Protecting
Insuring
When we should be breathing
Believing
Doing
Creating
Enjoying
Laughing
Being
Absorbing
Because we can’t take it with us
When we go
