Wild Stars

Woken in the night

Disgruntled I wandered outside to fix the problem

Only to look up amazed by the stars that spread overhead from horizon to horizon

To describe them is absurd

They don’t belong to anything down here on earth

Cannot be controlled

Even by the mega-wealthy trolls that want to conquer every frontier

And own it

Stars are wild things

They cannot be contained

Our mind tries to restrain them only to struggle even to keep them all in our narrow field of vision

They scatter free

Tossed carelessly by the hands of towering gods who smile indulgently at our small hopes and dreams

Perhaps that is why I love them so much

When I look up

I am reminded that the universe continues forever

And we are less than insignificant dust

It heals the part of me that worries and is concerned

How can I be?

When we are mere twigs tossed to burn

On the bonfire of eternity that sends sparks to the sky

Where we soar one day to join them

Some day when we die
