This is my teaching for the month
Perhaps the year
January – you have been difficult and beautiful
And fickle
And difficult
I stiltedly follow you around the dance floor
You laugh
Hovering just out of reach
I dance in rollerskates
Lacking the balance of a baby elephant learning to walk
Let alone skate
Yet slowly as the new moon rises
I find my way
I steady
Smile
Listen to the beat
And push out from the guardrail
Find my feet
And launch
Laughing
spinning and swirling
Onto the dance floor
Music flowing
With a smile on my face
We are here for such a short time
Let’s do this thing lightly
Empty our pockets of everything that is weighing us down
At every moment choice dances towards us
Will you choose the smile or the frown
One partner will step on your toes and bring you down
The other will spin you
Until breathless and laughing
Uplifted by the most charming of partners
Life becomes easy again
Lift baby lift
Gather your courage
Launch
