Human
I feel you
Dancing along beside me
Because I am also human
With eyes that see
The invisible web that weaves around us all
and through
Palpable
Resonating
Encountering trouble in one
Turning to another
Winged fingers unknotting
The invisible ties that bind
Unravelling the goodness which defines
Nearly all
Humans
Our genuine desire to help
Messages conveyed through the silent language of expression
A face
Two hands
That wiggle of eyebrows and a smile
A deep sigh
That riveting meeting of eyes
Or the roll and droll dry chuckle
A shrug
Bolstering hug
Oxytocin spreading up the spine
As arms entwine
And a heart beat finds time with another
If we were all struck dumb
Still we could get along
And possibly – even better
Than when using our tongues
If only we could hear the music
The header photo was taken one afternoon at the beach. There was a group of people all dressed in white, with headphones through which I assume, they were all listening to some inspiring group message. I was struck by their unison, they seemed a little other worldly and so many questions sprung to mind.
I posted the photo on Instagram with the well known quote “and those who were dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music”
The music is always there, we just have to be aware of it.
It’s there in the human who holds the door open for another, stays the lift, saves the runaway toddler from the traffic, laughs with a stranger, catches the eye of another at a concert as they both enjoy the music.
A thousand tiny interactions and opportunities where we can make another feel seen, heard, appreciated, connected.
In a world that is increasingly becoming disconnected as people stare at their phones instead of looking around at the other people in it – that lonely person may not receive a smile from any other human but you today. It’s important that’s all. And it is what makes us human, and ultimately leads to a richer experience of this brief life.
