Horizon turning
Apricot to blue
I want to grasp
This moment
Before the sun
While the moon is still bright
Already the stars
Have left the sky
And the tall gum tree behind
Is becoming more defined
Leaf by leaf
We cannot hold time
For it is inexorably marching toward forever
And the only way to memorize a moment
Is to breathe it in
And surrender
So many glimpses I knew would not last
The sound of a laugh
Cannot be bottled
A glance
A dance
A firm clasp
Warmth of fingertips
Wrinkle hands
Like lightning bugs in a jar
I tip them to the rim
Close my lids
Feel the suns first rays
I wonder how many are left
These precious days
Warmth on my cranium
Breathe in deep
But you can’t hold a breath forever
And you can’t keep anything else either
Pressure builds in the chest
I sigh
And there goes another best sunrise ever
I hope you’re enjoying it though, noticing how blessed we all are, to be here right now. Sometimes it hits me so hard – we really don’t have forever.
