Navigating the Doldrums: Finding Flow in Stillness

When the sails won’t fill

And the ship won’t move

And everything is still

Is it calm?

Or is it doldrums?

And if it is the latter

Than I pity you

When it flows there is an abundance

We misconstrue that it is ours to own

But no

It is just the flow

And if we don’t throw ourselves all in

Weigh anchor and sail before the wind

Losing sight of all we hold dear

Without fear

It’s gone

And the hollow of the loss

Is an empty bowl

The sound of a tapping spoon fills the ether

  2. Lovely, Kate! This, in particular, stuck with me:

“When it flows there is an abundance

We misconstrue that it is ours to own”

The constant ebb and flood of everything vital is ours and yet it isn’t. It belongs to all of us, to every living being, to all that is. Thanks for this one, and so happy to see you back! ❤️

    • Thanks Camilla, I am so glad this post landed with you. I was talking about this with a wise friend the other day – saying how I so often create and then destroy my pieces by deleting them – not so much here but on Instagram, they said something like “you write from the soul but edit with your brain,” it really struck me that I should not keep editing that way!
