She wore lipstick like warpaint
and her eyes were unnerving
Direct
Uncompromising
With the merest twinkle of mischief
Hiding
Just out of sight
So he wasn’t quite sure
Whether she was laughing at him
or the whole damn world
When she moved
it was with a loping gait
That no one else could quite replicate
though a few tried
Legs
One
Two
Three
Four
Hand on the door
She would spin
with a grin
What are you waiting for?
Her energy filled the room
Crackling around the table
Like lightening in a dry storm
Raising the hair on every forearm
Wherever her attention drifted
sifted
like sparkles into the air
And
then
she
was
gone
Eventually
Life moved on
Leaving everyone to wonder if they had just imagined her to be so much larger
than the small lives they lived
The girl in the photo is a street photography capture from a few years ago on the streets of Brisbane. The girl in the story is real, and sometimes I can’t believe she is gone, but that is life, it moves on without people all the time, relentlessly pursuing some endless goal that we cannot always see. Happy Monday to you and a reminder to be larger hearted than the small minds that so often surround us.
