Remedies for the ailing soul

Something that festers

does so to heal and eject foreign particles

from where they do not belong

anymore.

Resentment interrupts contentment

drawing the gaze inwards to its cankerous source.

A remedy for all that bothers and harps

can be found by unwinding with a cup of tea

self study

and a drop of compassionate sunset

#or sunrise – which I always try and experience as well.

The beach at dawn never fails to inspire

I had never heard of Martha Beck. I listened to a podcast episode where Tim Ferris interviewed her largely on her book and thoughts around integrity. The two hours flew. What a wise woman. I bought her book and read it that night.

We live in a society that encourages hustle over joy. Where people’s boundaries are constantly usurped by others and depression is on the rise. It is unsurprising given that so many of us are out of alignment with the things that bring us joy. Joy and the pursuit of it is not a frivolous whim, it is a sign that we are in our power and operating at our full capacity.

If more leaders encouraged their workers to arrive at work and leave work and to do the work in a state of joy, deadlines would automatically be met and the laughter and energy in the workplace would be palpable.

If someone’s state of joy and their capacity for self understanding as to what individually brings each person joy could be analysed and practiced encouraged to enhance it – the world would be entirely different.

If you think everyone would go and lie on a beach for the rest of their lives if they were encouraged to only seek joy, you would be incorrect. Perhaps a week or two. But joy is incontrovertibly linked to purpose, and living a purposeful life. It can be measured only when someone is living in integrity with their soul.

So many lives unwind in accordance with what they think they should be doing. And it is only years later they bitterly regret their choices made in it of alignment – by then sadly, it is too late.

    • Thanks Camilla, you are very kind. I’m hoping to get some time later in the week to get some reading done – in general but particularly in WordPress what is the name of your book?

      • It’s currently only available as an ongoing series of WP posts. If you go to my site and click on the page “The Shadowdancer,” you’ll find info on it and a link to the first post from which you can then follow them in order. Each post is not more than 5 minutes worth of reading, and most are shorter. I currently have 9 of them posted. Thanks for your interest, Kate! ❤️
