The next bend

How often we return to the past

Because we knew what happened then

How it ended

And it feels safe

Even though

Perhaps it failed

Or we did

Yet the pages had spun all the way to the end

And we knew now

we could begin again

Although the past is always catching up

It whispers in my ear

Soon it will be over

And there won’t be another year

Of goals

And plans

And ideas

Its time

to stop looking over the shoulder

The familiar bolster

And instead step over the ledge

Encounter uncertainty

With grace

And face

What awaits ahead

Around the next bend

  1. That’s a wonderful photo, Kate.
It suits the verse, suggests to me that there is a risk in turning the head for more than a brief moment to look back when on a bumpy road.

    • Isn’t it beautiful! The colours, I snapped it with my phone ages ago when I used to walk or run that road all the time. And yes we can’t be distracted on the bumpy road – wise observation DD
