There is blue sky above
And there is the dirt at our feet
You wouldn’t think it would ever be confused
But it so very often is
There is truth
And the truth that we tell ourselves is true
Belief makes things difficult to decipher
The one from the other
A jet pilot flying at the speed of light
Loses sight
Of what is up
And what is down
Crashing
How?
Was it the speed
The warped perspective
Or the belief
The brought him low
I guess no one knows
And the dead tell no stories
In the end
There is the truth
And that which we tell ourselves is true
The gap between theories
So slim
It might only be a sideways glance
But it changes everything
So very true! Great writing, as ever!
Thanks Colin hope all is well in your world
You are welcome!! We are back into national lockdown here 🙁 I live in the sticks and my Department has one of the lowest case numbers in France but into national lockdown we have gone!
I was chatting to a friend in Scotland yesterday and they are locked down too – so grateful to be in Australia and on an island at present – we have no community transmitted cases at all and Melbourne is finally open for business. What a dreadful year that we didn’t see coming!
Yes, it has been the oddest of years and the pessimists say that we are looking at Easter before any sign of normalcy 🙁 To make matters worse, folks with second homes here have decided to descend upon Brittany for the month gahhh. Stay Safe!
Hell is people! Makes life difficult when they all descend at once. You stay safe too.
I like this poem. The image of the sky above, the earth below, And the pilot crashing because he can’t tell the difference is powerful.
It’s why I think in metaphor or rather images that turn into metaphors that turn into poems 😊
Very well said! Loved this poem.
Thanks Lauren – It’s amazing what we can be fooled about until we aren’t anymore, when we change what we believe our world changes
