When the weight of the world is too heavy
Or my mind is full to the brim
When the people I love are fighting
for a smile,
their eyes sad,
shoulders stooped.
When all around me seems troubled
And it seeps down into my soul
wakes me in the middle of the night
I tip toe into my office
snap on the desk light
and write.
*It never ceases to amaze me how writing soothes me. It unburdens, eases, explains, calms, lifts all the thoughts from my brain, empties them on to a page. There is no need to make poetry, though sometimes that comes naturally. Just the act of writing itself is a balm.
If I can’t sleep, I write. If I am worried, I write. Everyone has this tool, but not everyone uses it.

I couldn’t have said it better.
If you are ….you should be writing:

Ohh I know exactly what you’re saying. Even the ones we hate to publish really help unburden our souls. It’s the best therapy I’ve found and I love how soothing writing can be.
There is so much I don’t publish! Thankfully. 😂
😉
Absolutely!
Wonderful reflection and acknowledgement, Kate. Writing offers many gifts and points of connection to our inner selves and the world around us. ✨
It sure does Michelle 💕
this is why so much of my poetry is dark!
~David
At least you have somewhere to locate the darkness within yourself and then extract it David. I feel sorry for the sensitive people that don’t write or create art and instead have to keep all their darkness inside. I know since I began to write, I am rarely weighed down by anything for very long.
Best way to release and relax. AND you can give it the ending/resolution that works best for you. A real win. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for reading Selma and yes, the best way to unwind the noise.
These are the kinds of things I tell people when they ask me why I journal.
Yes I journal a few times throughout the day as well Boromax and also if I become worried or need to work something through. It’s a wonderful tool, I wish they taught kids how to do this in schools.
Yes, I do that too. It’s exactly what every writer does and you wrote this so eloquently and beautifully!
Thanks Yassy, do we do it for us or do we do it because it has to be said through us? Who knows 😊but thanks for reading
well said, Kate: I have believed this for a long time: I love the Erickson quote —
Writing does for me exactly what you described. It’s cathartic. It’s one of the ways I talk to God and he responds.
Yes that’s exactly right I access a greater wisdom through writing too.
