Strainer Post

As a child growing up in the bush I’ve done my share of attending to fence lines.

Strainer posts are the strong posts, they are set in place to take the strain of extended fence lines. The droppers are the lighter metal posts spaced out in between.

As part of my “back to photography” challenge, I focused on fence posts today. It made me think of who and what are the strainer posts in my own life.

Some are tall

Some are small

And some are now phantoms

their presence and impact nevertheless,

still resonates

And when I think of them

they call

parts of me home

to who I am

Art; poetry, photography, these things I cannot live without. My days are dull and flat when I am not creating. Sometimes we don’t even realise how much the colour is seeping out around the edges, until we begin to “see” in art again.

Where we focus is what grows in our consciousness.

Why not beauty?

Photography is igniting my spirit at the moment, I’m uploading on Insta and on Flickr daily.

  1. Thank you for this insightful post Kate. Yeah, I love photography at the moment more than writing. Sometimes one picture can express more than 1000 words. Have a tremendous day 🙏

    • Hi Chris, I’ve not used my beautiful cameras in so long – yet another thing the iPhone had replaced. They are so much better than the iPhone though, and the act of creating gives me so much more satisfaction. A picture really does replace many words.

  2. I fully relate to this, Kate; I am fully alive when I am creating; I love the metaphor of strainer posts; metaphors are the strainer posts of poetry —
