Strong trunk

In the depths of fear

A seed lies dormant waiting

Courage grows straight up

*I am packing for my trip, hiking alone in the spectacular but remote Carnarvon Gorge great walk.

I’ve done it before, but always the nag and whine of “what if’s” circle in the days before I go. Courage does not do well in wait cycle, it is in the actionable moment that it rises and carries us.

I use the “what ifs” to go over my list (although with limited pack space I can’t cover every eventuality – and I have a very good imagination for scenario.

I leave tomorrow, there is a blog post scheduled for Thursday, other than that it will be next week as I have no service and no way to post.

Not that it matters, and that’s kind of the point, to go entirely free of technology for awhile.

Because my journal is thick and heavy, I am taking a small spiral notebook. Since I usually fill up pages at a time in A4 size it will be a constraint on mind and thoughts to have limited paper. I’m using haiku to describe my experience to me.

That and of course photos. My camera is heavy, for hiking, but well worth it.

Now it’s deciding which one! perhaps two.

  1. I find bigger camera’s take better photo’s, but take longer to setup for that impulsive shot, so it depends on what you are likely to find out there.

  2. have a good hike, Kate 🙂 this is timely: I’m reading an article in the ‘Good Weekend’ about the camino trails , especially the big two. I am sure you’ll have plenty to write about and some interesting snaps; looking forward to your report 🙂

  3. The weight of a camera is in no way “extra.” 🙂 Have a wonderful trip! My longest solo hike was Mt. Rainier’s Wonderland Trail. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I love this, “Courage does not do well in wait cycle, it is in the actionable moment that it rises and carries us.” Happy trails!
