The colour of soil and pebble
Tree and rock
Boulders in the shade
Falling just the same way
As elsewhere I’ve seen
Landscape passing through
recalling a scene or view
Found hundreds of miles away
And people are like that too
Mannerisms
A flash of a smile
And the ghost of someone I once knew
Walks by in another persons skin
Shape of shoulder
Slopes down mountain side
A hawk circles high
The shadow of a cloud
Drifting
Moment in time feels like a month
Or perhaps just one day
24 hours
Momentum wearying
Tearing
Inside I’m breaking down
Caterpillar cocoon snaking
Winding arms around
Patterns sloughed off
Bones snapping
Brain mapping
I’m becoming anew
Renewed
Rewired
Differently
Watching others around me switch
And the way we relate shift
The further along we go
Careful
Clinging to balance
With white knuckles
But damn it!
never careful enough
There is a fire in my periphery
And even though I watch it intensely
Still
It burns me down
And melts me
Now I’ll have to carry another scar
Yet I forgo
wishing on precious stars
And instead just let them shine ✨

how gorgeous.
Thanks Selma. It was certainly an experience I will never forget 💕
great ending to a riveting poem; yes, like AI we are in flux —
If we are lucky John, if we are lucky.
Scars and stars. The road of life is full of pain and beauty, isn’t it? Love this piece, Kate. Favorite line: “the ghost of someone I once knew/walks by in another persons skin.”
Ahhhh that’s a little bit magical – I wrote this while walking this morning:
Scars tell you where you’ve been
Not where you currently are
But you can use them to navigate
Like
Stars
