Things don’t always go…

As I hear you hurl your breakfast

Into the loo

I think to myself

Well things don’t always go according to plan

And I pop another Panadol

To take the edge of my tooth pain

And

I think to myself

Well things don’t always go

According

To

Plan

And

I rifle through my suitcase

Looking at my coat

I shake my head

It’s so hot here

Why

Would

I even

Dream…

But then I remember

Things

Don’t

Always

Go

….

I thought it would be bucolic

A little Victorian country frolic

A romantic folly

A nice holiday

Well

The Alpacas are ugly

And one spat on me

The donkey wanted to bite

The sheep

Well

Whatever – I’ve seen plenty of sheep before and of course

They are never exciting

Things

You know

But then the sun went down

And there you sit

Nibbling on the new version of a rice cracker

The only thing you can eat

Thanks to a rather indiscreet bout of

Stomach bug itis

And I sip a wine

And thank goodness for pain killers

Catch your eye

And smile

We begin to chuckle

Because really it is quite perfect

How life

Is

Not

And aren’t we lucky

That we’re not

Young and full of expectations about perfect situations

We’ve seen plan F come round a time or two

Me and you

We’ve lived through things that just fell through

Unexpectedly

So

No

Life isn’t perfect

But it is jolly nice just all the same

Another rice cracker?

No

Off to the loo

Again

Oh well

Things don’t always go according to plan

Do they

  1. Haha…I’ve suffered through toothache during our trip to Jordan and while everybody had succulent cuts of meat, I had soup. And then during another holiday I had the stomach bug. While everybody enjoyed their meal, I was stuck in the loo:(

    • You had both our experiences rolled into one then – poor thing 🙁 It’s so awful to be sick when on holidays – it seems like the worst kind of unfairness. Still – we managed to work around it and have a lovely time. Now I’m home and everything is fine – wish we could take a do over :):)

      • Yes it is 🙂 Now when I go on holidays, my kids ensure I dont get excited and over-eat…they are more concerned than I am. Am glad you had an amazing holiday and are back now…
