Hope

I run across feathers
and attribute meaning
Whisper
“Hello Mum
It’s okay
I’m still living”
Circling pelicans
Low to the ground
Formation is odd
Like my compass
Lately
North
Is
South
World upside down
Yet still
I feel the strings
From my heart
Connect to something greater than me
Pulling me forward
Fearlessly
And the pragmatist would say
I’m dreaming
Lost in wonderland
Grow up
There’s bad out there
You should have seen it coming
And I would say
I can’t explain the colour of the sky
To the blind
Or why
I believe I’ll be alright
I can’t say
Why
When I smile at a stranger
And they smile back
I come alive
Ignite inside
But I know
Happiness is chosen
And if you can’t choose it
In a dark room
When you can’t see what’s coming
You don’t deserve it yet
Keep going
Hope
Lives in the feathers
That I run across
On the path
Whisper
“Hello Mum
I’m still living”
Love
Is a verb
And I just keep doing it

And yes I was thinking of Emily Dickinson’s poem when I saw this sign.

Hope is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words – And never stops – at all.
