I cannot believe that one day it will fall silent
And the thoughts that travel from here to there
So quickly
Will stop
But the bell vibrates
Long after we are gone
Even if only the elephant can hear the song
With its giant ears
I will sing to the elephants
And hope they are still here
And the mist that falls on morning ponds
Rising
Sky clearing
Takes everything else
For I don’t want to be buried
Dark and grave
With no thoughts to hear me
Nor things to create
Such a powerful, emotional piece!
I love these lines in particular:
“Even if only the elephant can hear the song
With its giant ears
I will sing to the elephants
And hope they are still here”
So beautiful and melancholy!
I worry about our wildlife – we are so voracious – human locusts on the face of the earth.
Wonderful with some beautifully evocative imagery!
Thankyou 😊
Sincerely most welcome!
I love this poem of yours. So sensitive and deep.
I am sure the elephant will hear your song and many more will.
I do so agree with your sentiment all through.
Miriam
Thankyou it was a lovely poem to have drift through. I’m hoping there will be elephants alive when I’m gone to hear it.
What a stunning sunset! What happens to our thoughts once our lifeless physical bodies are buried still remains a mystery. On a cosmic scale, you and I and the elephants are mere microscopic atoms of stardust. I like to think of our soul or spirit as becoming one with the Cosmic Consciousness that keeps our expanding Universe in motion. Our collective thoughts as creative energy.
I like that thought too Rosaliene. Scale puts everything into perspective – perhaps we are just cells in an enormous organism – we don’t even recognise the intelligence and importance of each tiny cell in our own body. I love to let consciousness wander and see what it brings me back. Worlds within worlds.
This is so beautiful. Goodness you have such a way with words.
Thanks V 😊
“I love to let consciousness wander and see what it brings me back.”
~ I like that about the poetry you share with us 🙂 When we are freed from our physical body, all knowledge will be revealed. Something to look forward to as a seeker of truth.
I think so too Rosaliene.
Wouldn’t worry, Kate, you’re always writing Heavenly poetry. Long may it continue.
I hope so Len. I hope the elephants do too.
