We are what we are. Creator vs Producer

Productivity

Creativity

Curly hair

Straight

What we have, we take for granted

What we don’t

We

Wish

We could do better at being

*I wish I could spend money on sensible things, but blinds for my home are boring when compared with vintage cameras.

I wish I could spend my time more wisely, sensibly, productively.

The same dopamine hit that inspires someone to cobweb and clean, I receive from a poem that unravels in a way that makes me feel it visceraly

I do what must be done, but if only I could muster the same enthusiasm, leaping out of bed in the morning to tackle administrative tasks as I do to shoot landscapes, write poetry.

As it is these things feed my soul and make it possible to labour for hours at less inspiring but necessary tasks.

We are what we are.

Producers wish they were more creative (or think we are mad)

And creatives wish they were more productive (or think them sad)

We are what we are

  1. very wise words, Kate; I like how you got to the last few lines; I’m with you: I get my big hit through being creative; though I find meaning in the small things too, like airing the sheets, making the bed, doing the dished, hanging up clothes and bringing them in, filling up the bird bath; I like snapping photos too but with me it’s just the phone camera — and when I can pair a photo with a poem, that’s a real dopamine hit !!!

    • Isn’t it funny the ways we draw satisfaction from the world? Everyone is different and I heartily agree, when it all comes together it’s perfect

  2. oh the dilemma, Kate “I do what must be done, but if only I could muster the same enthusiasm, leaping out of bed in the morning to tackle administrative tasks as I do to shoot landscapes, write poetry.”
