Clenched

We limp along carrying certainty

That bucket full of holes

Only the pieces I drop

Have ever told the truth

Today I dropped the burden

And walked

With empty hands

The energy was certain

My fingers curled in air

It was the bucket that was heavy

I tried to carry everything in

Without the handle and the weight

I began to breathe again

An old photo of someone’s front yard ..
