The Movie

Every human has a brain

The brain produces thoughts about the world around and inside the human

The thoughts create emotions that the human experiences

The thoughts become the movie narrator

The emotions create how the human experiences the movie

And the entire drama is very absorbing

Far more absorbing then the designer ever thought it would be

The designer thought that surely the humans would find the watcher

The observer

Inside of them

The designer had installed a hack

A way out of the dream

It was part of the plan

The designer installed the hack carefully of course it wasn’t obvious because that would wreck the magic of the movie experience but surely…

I mean – have you ever been to a movie where a little guy would run down the aisles reminding everyone every ten minutes that it was “just a movie”

No, because that would be distracting

And weird

And you wouldn’t enjoy the movie

But the hack was there

Surely they would find it

But many humans didn’t

Many humans became absorbed into the “game” the “movie”

And they lived their entire lives that way

Never coming out of the cinema

Into the bright sunlight

With goosebumps fading

Saying

“Man, that was a great movie!”

    • Oh I just wrote this now – I was lying in bed thinking of a dear friend that is a bit caught up in his movie at the moment and how I would explain it to him. You know be the little dude running down the aisle with a flashlight yelling “it’s just a movie” and have everyone yell at me for disturbing their experience. 😉

  1. This is all too true. A lot of the time my thoughts do get carried away and it’s like I am narrating my very own movie 🎥 Only thing now is the popcorn! 🍿

    • Popcorn always!! Just remember you get to walk out of the cinema whenever you want – I don’t like the scary bits, that’s when I’m like… hmm wonder where the bathroom is 😂😂

      • 😂😂😂 oh bless! That’s true, we can’t escape our minds, best we can do is wake up from a bad dream, but even then it doesn’t block out the scary thoughts 😝

  2. “Life isn’t like the movies, it needs better writers.”
Not sure who said that, but it’s one of my favorite quotes about movies and your poem reminded me of it.

  3. So true, we often get stuck in our own movies, I’ve had quite a few sad ones that I really could have just got up and left 🤔
