Riddle or rock

Tiny pebble skips easily across a pond

It’s light

Quick

Exuberant

A boulder drops heavy

Creates a huge splash

Falls to the bottom

Water rushing to cover

It is weighted

Passive

Lies inert

Blocks the throat

Momentarily

No matter their size

The pebble and the boulder still end up at the bottom of the river

One arrives faster

The other takes longer, perhaps has more fun, creates ripples and circles in its flight

But no big splash of insight.

Which am I?

I am neither a pebble or a boulder

I decide,

I am the water

Constantly absorbing

Heavy and light

Letting things lie as they might

Flow is not the absence of obstacles

It is the capacity to continue regardless

Increasing and decreasing energy

as required.

  1. this is such a good post, Kate ; where it landed was unexpected: I thought , yes, you would choose either pebble or rock; but you chose neither — you chose water. Terrific choice !

    • Ha thanks John, I mentioned to Monty, I have no idea where a poem is taking me sometimes, I was asking myself “am I the pebble or the rock?” But nope, water and that’s where the lessons was. Thanks for reading, I always enjoy your comments John.

    • Skipping stones is not my strong point Michelle – more of a plunker. I can definitely drop a boulder 😊 and thankyou, for reading. I love your comments
